Anja Veirman
Researcher, teacher, PhD supervisorAnja Veirman is a lecturer, researcher and PhD supervisor at LUCA School of Arts. Being an art historian and anthropologist, Anja likes to participate in collaborative trans-disciplinary research and co-creation projects.
Fascinated by the multiplicity of today’s world and the entanglements of (ritual) textile practices with non-human and more-than-human entities, Anja did extensive fieldwork with the Senufo-communities in Burkina Faso, Mali and Ivory Coast. Her PhD delved into the relation between knowledge systems (mediumistic divination) and textile practices, focusing on Senufo mudcloth (ferege fani, fila fani), cloth that is dyed with mud and plants, involving the collaboration of different makers and entities to be effective.
Bio-centric knowledge systems and relational ontologies, with their entangled cosmologies and diverse notions of multiple personhood are central to Anja´s work. Exploring decolonial research reflects her attempts to reformulate monolithically constructed histories into post-anthropocentric pluriversal narratives.
