Reading Group: Decolonizing Crafts
03.12.2024The theme of this hybrid reading group emerged from a collective interest in 'ways of sharing knowledge through weaving’ and from a position of embeddedness and embodiment in the local craft cultures related to our practices. In preparation we studied and compared texts from John Paul Morabito (Weaving Beyond the Binary, 2022, introduction) and Tim Ingold (Life of Lines, 2015, chapter 4 and 5). The invitation was for each of the participants to bring in a personal fragment (in the form of a text, a picture or a clip) presenting or representing a ‘movement’ through which an engagement with the topic of decolonisation in regards to craft cultures was possible. These fragments guided the discussion and the different positions emerging from the texts.
