Spring Gathering: Sowing Worlds

25.03.2025
10:00 - 15:00
LUCA Campus Ter Beken
Beekstraat 1-3, 9030 Ghent

The SIT-PLU Lab and the Fluid Futures cluster warmly invites you to welcome the Spring Equinox with a day on the land. A collective exploration of seeds as repositories of life, travellers of time, and companions in reimagining worlds. Join us on Wednesday 25 March from 10:00–15:00 at Campus Kasteel Ter Beken.

When the light of dawn wakens your pulse,
When your pollen travels with the wind,
When the melting dew softens your skin,
When your catkins bud for the honeybees,
When your dreams unfold into new beginnings,
Let the sunlight sink into your sapstreams,
Let your words be sown,
Let your worlds be grown.
The seed is a traveller.
A blossoming potential.
A repository of life.

Morning: Reading Seeds

We begin with a reading group around two texts:
  • The chapter “Sowing Worlds” from Staying with the Trouble by Donna Haraway
  • “The Sense of Seeds, or Seminal Events” by Michael Marder

Haraway’s notion of worlding and (re)generation invites us to think of seeds as active agents in processes of re-seeding, re-making, and re-worlding. Seeds are sites of hybridity and symbiogenesis, conceptual and material beginnings.

Marder approaches seeds philosophically, asking what it means to think from the perspective of vegetal life, to sense the potentiality and temporality contained within a seed.

Together, we will explore seeds as potentiality. What do we carry forward? What do we choose to sow again?

Midday: Spring Lunch

Artist and cook Lara Bongard will prepare a seasonal Spring lunch, ideally shared outdoors in the field.

Afternoon: Collective Sowing

We close the day by collectively sowing the dye garden, guided by a score facilitated by Breg Horemans.
